Benzaldehyde

(100-52-7)
Benzaldehyde is an important raw material for the medicine, dye, perfume and resin industries, and can also be used as a solvent, plasticizer, and low-temperature lubricant. In the flavor industry, it is mainly used to prepare food flavors, and a small amount is used in daily chemical flavors and tobacco flavors. Although it is widely used as a commercial food seasoning and industrial solvent, the main use of benzyl alcohol is to synthesize a variety of other compounds from pharmaceuticals to pl

Benzil

(134-81-6)
Benzil, yellow prismatic crystal, soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, benzene, toluene, and nitrobenzene, insoluble in water, incompatible with strong oxidants. Benzil has a density of 1.2±0.1 g/cm3, a boiling point of 347.0±11.0 °C at 760 mmHg, a water solubility of 0.5 g/L (20 ºC), a melting point of 94-95 °C, a molecular formula of C14H10O2, and a molecular weight of 210.228. The flash point is 142.6±4.9 °C, the exact mass is 210.068085, the PSA is 34.14000, the LogP is 3.38, the molar refractive index is 61.24, the molar volume (cm3/mol) is 180.3, and the isotropic specific volume (90.2K) is 473.1. Surface tension (3.0 dyne/cm) is 47.3, polarizability (0.5 10-24cm3) is 24.28, vapor pressure is 0.0±0.8 mmHg at 25°C, refractive index is 1.594, low toxicity, irritating, present in flue gas. Benzil is used to prepare diketoimines by reacting with amines. It is also involved in the famous benzoyl-benzoyl acid rearrangement. In addition, it reacts with 1, 3-diphenylacetone to obtain tetraphenylcyclopentadienone. Benzil is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate, a photosensitizer for UV-curing resins, an intermediate for organic synthesis, and as an insecticide. In polymer chemistry, it is used as a photoinitiator. In addition, it is a potent inhibitor of human carboxylesterase. This product is promising as a photosensitizer for ultraviolet curing resin (UV resin). Benzil sensitizes a wide range of wavelengths to ultraviolet light. Benzoin is below 3400A and benzoin alkyl ethers below 3900A. Benzil is sensitized over a wide wavelength range below 4800A and can therefore be used for curing thick film resins, a property not previously available in UA resin sensitization. Moreover, there is no odor after curing, so it is suitable for making printing inks for food packaging.

An aldehyde is a compound in which a hydrocarbon group (or hydrogen atom) is connected to an aldehyde group. Aldehydes can be divided into fatty aldehydes and aromatic aldehydes, monoaldehyde and dialdehydes. Aldehydes are mainly strongly reducing, and their oxidizing properties are average. Aldehyde groups are relatively lively and can undergo addition and condensation reactions.

More Information

Aldehyde is an organic compound with the general formula RCHO, where R stands for hydrocarbon group. Aldehydes are composed of a hydrocarbon group (or hydrogen atom) connected to an aldehyde group (-CHO). It contains carbonyl groups in their molecules, with hydrogen atoms directly connected to the carbonyl group. Based on the different hydrocarbon groups, aldehydes can be classified as aromatic aldehydes, fatty aldehydes and so on.

The relevant chemical reactions of aldehydes contain nucleophilic addition reaction and oxidation reaction. They can be obtained by alcohol oxidation, olefin oxidation, alkyne hydration, etc. Besides, Aldehyde compounds have many vital chemical properties and applications, such as participating in various chemical reactions and being important intermediates in the process of organic synthesis.

The application of oxidation of aldehydes

1. Synthesize chemical industrial products, such as methanoic acid

2. Synthesize ketone compounds

3. Used in biology study
