Is SICL4 ionic or covalent?

Dog daycare/dog experts/cat experts  Follow

Silicon is metalloid and it is also considered as nonmetallic and chlorine is also a nonmetal and the bond between metals and non metal is ionic as well as bond between nonmetals and nonmetals are covalent.

So SiCl4 is covalent.

On the basis of electronegativity value we can see that the difference between silicon and chlorine atom is less than 0.9 so it is covalent.

HgBr2 is an ionic compound because Hg is a transition metal & Br is a non-metal and you must be knowing that always an ionic bond is formed when there is a metal and a non-metal whereas a covalent bond is formed between 2 non-metals.Hope it answers your query.
