Terphenyl, hydrogenated

structure

Description

Clear, oily, pale-yellow liquids with a faint odor. [plasticizer/heat-transfer media]

Hydrogenated terphenyls is a clear, oily, pale-yellow liquid with a faint odor. A mixture of numerous compounds and isomers depending on the degree and conditions of hydrogenation The 40% hydrogenated mixture has bp: 340°C, density: 1.00 g cm-3, and is insoluble in water. Used as a plasticizer and as a heat-transfer medium. Can be absorbed through the skin and by ingestion.|Liquid|CLEAR OILY PALE YELLOW LIQUID WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.|Clear, oily, pale-yellow liquids with a faint odor.|Clear, oily, pale-yellow liquids with a faint odor. Hydrocarbons, Aromatic

HYDROGENATED TERPHENYLS are non-flammable (flash-point 157°C for 40% hydrogenated mixture), but combustible. Resist decomposition but break down to produce acrid smoke when heated sufficiently. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents.

Use water spray, powder, foam, carbon dioxide.

Skin: Wear appropriate personal protective clothing to prevent skin contact. Eyes: Wear appropriate eye protection to prevent eye contact. Wash skin: The worker should immediately wash the skin when it becomes contaminated. Remove: Work clothing that becomes wet or significantly contaminated should be removed and replaced. Change: Workers whose clothing may have become contaminated should change into uncontaminated clothing before leaving the work premise. (NIOSH, 2016)|(See protection codes)

Personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours adapted to the airborne concentration of the substance. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent. Then store and dispose of according to local regulations.

Ventilation along the floor. Store in an area without drain or sewer access.

A harmful contamination of the air will be reached rather slowly on evaporation of this substance at 20 °C.

The substance is irritating to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract.

The substance defats the skin, which may cause dryness or cracking.

NO open flames.

PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS!

Avoid inhalation of mist. Use ventilation, local exhaust or breathing protection.

Protective gloves. Protective clothing.

Wear safety goggles or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.

Drug Information

Exposure Routes: inhalation, ingestion, skin and/or eye contact Symptoms: Irritation eyes, skin, respiratory system; liver, kidney, hematopoietic damage Target Organs: Eyes, skin, respiratory system, liver, kidneys, hematopoietic system (NIOSH, 2016)

Eye: If this chemical contacts the eyes, immediately wash the eyes with large amounts of water, occasionally lifting the lower and upper lids. Get medical attention immediately. Contact lenses should not be worn when working with this chemical. Skin: If this chemical contacts the skin, immediately wash the contaminated skin with soap and water. If this chemical penetrates the clothing, immediately remove the clothing, wash the skin with soap and water, and get medical attention promptly. Breathing: If a person breathes large amounts of this chemical, move the exposed person to fresh air at once. If breathing has stopped, perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Keep the affected person warm and at rest. Get medical attention as soon as possible. Swallow: If this chemical has been swallowed, get medical attention immediately. (NIOSH, 2016)|(See procedures)

Fresh air, rest. Seek medical attention if you feel unwell.

Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention .
