2,3-Dichloro-5-nitropyridine Use and Manufacturing

Quinoline (48.5 ml, 0.41 mol) was added to POCl3 (164.0 ml, 1.75 mol) at 0 C under nitrogen. To this stirred mixture, 2-hydroxy- 3-chloro-5-nitropyridine (204 mg, 1.17 mol) was added. The reaction mixturewas heated at 120 C for 2 h, cooled to 0 C followed by addition of ice-cold water. The precipitate obtained was filtered, washed thoroughly with water and dried to give 2, 3-dichloro-5- nitropyridine. Yield: 220 g, (97percent). M.P.: 53 C. 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6): d 9.16 (d, 1H, J ¼ 2.4 Hz), 8.94 (d, 1H, J ¼ 2.4 Hz). 13C NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6): d 158.69, 137.36, 132.51, 130.13, 124.39. MS (ES): 193 (M þ 1).Quinoline (0.3 mL, 2.34 mmol) was added to POClQuinoline (0.3 mL, 2.34 mmol) was added to POClTo phosphorus oxychloride (37.4 mL, 0.4 mol) at 0° C. was added quinoline (23.6 mL, 0.2 mol), followed by 3-chloro-2-hydroxy-5-nitropyridine (70 g, 0.4 mol) from above.
