It is derived from the low-temperature chlorination of propylene and chlorine gas in dichloropropane. This product is also produced by-product when chlorinating propylene at high temperature to produce chloropropane.

Uses

Solvent for oils, fats, resins, waxes, rubber; in ion exchange manufacture; in photographic film production; paper coating; petroleum catalyst regeneration.Has been used as a soil fumigant.
